Textile & Mixed Media Artist
:
I alternate between acrylic painting and textile art. For me, they represent a perfect balance in creativity. As a small girl I spent many hours camping in a shed at the bottom of an unkempt garden. So now I spend my time painting and sewing pictures of sheds and wild gardens. Drawing with the sewing machine on calico backgrounds ,which are either hand dyed or printed, gives me scope to express my love of wild corners of gardens and allotments. Winter visitors to the bird table , their antics and their arguments also inspire my paintings. On moving from the Yorkshire Dales to Oxfordshire in 2010, I joined the Banbury Mill Arts Centre Textile Artists Group to whose members and friends I owe a tremendous amount for their sharing of techniques and their passion for beautiful creative work with all sorts of textiles. My enjoyment of texture has recently led to experimenting with different media in order to create textural effects which reflect light in interesting ways. So corrugated cardboard, cellophane , string and papier mache have sneaked into art pieces and made magic. I have exhibited in Banbury Mill Arts Centre , Oxfordshire Art Weeks, The Ironstone Competition and at Cropredy. Since moving to Ledbury I have exhibited at The Secret Gallery, Newent, and Bromesberrow Heath (Ledbury). Proceeds from my paintings go to the charity WaterAid, which supports fresh water and sanitation projects in developing countries and which makes a real difference to health and to women and girls educational opportunities in those countries. |
